Short visit to Kanyakumari
During the road trip to Kerala, a thought came to our minds, why not touch the southern mainland tip of India — Kanyakumari. After Varkala, we drove down to Kanyakumari, about 4 hours drive. Since it was an impromptu decision, we booked our stay at the ‘Hotel Tamilnadu’ during the drive. The view from the hotel is extraordinary but the hotel could have been better maintained.
The main highlight of Kanyakumari is being able to view both the sunrise and sunset over the sea. We had planned only a day in Kanyakumari and drive ahead. Unfortunately, trips don’t always end up as planned. It was cloudy most of the day so sunset was not what we had hoped for. Nevertheless, it was serene and there is something about the place which brings peace.
For food, our hotel served breakfast which had decent South Indian options. We had lunch at the restaurant of ‘Annai resorts & spa’. It had a terrace restaurant overlooking the ocean and served great appetizers. We had dinner in a small joint — Maruti pure veg, served great South Indian food.
One day was too short to explore and enjoy Kanyakumari. Though the touristy places were too crowded, you can visit places away from them like a walk beside the ocean early morning. View different colors of water joining from 3 different sources — Triveni Sangama(the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean, and the Arabian Sea). There are multiple temples to visit which we avoided due to COVID. We also missed the ferry trip to the Vivekananda memorial. Can’t wait to go back here and next time, would definitely drive up to Rameshwaram(6 hrs drive) and explore the mystic beauty of Dhanushkodi.
